Unheated Blue Spinel - Shani - Saturn - Saturday
Blue spinel is a very good uparatna for Shani/Saturn at a more affordable price than sapphire. Prices on unheated blue sapphires have risen in recent years due to demand from China and India. Consequently, even many of the more affordable lighter blue sapphires have gone up in price, in some cases above some people's budget for a Shani/Saturn gemstone. Rather than lower the quality of our products by accepting gems with more flaws (which allows for a cheaper price range), we are offering beautiful blue spinels as an alternative. This allows the same or similar energy as the lighter blue sapphires. Blue spinels have also started to accelerate upwards in price; these were purchased at "old costs," before the price increases hit today's market. Color: There is a large range of color from pale, grayish blue to deep pure blue, with slight violet secondary. The best range is a light to medium, fine 'cornflower' blue which is not too dark. Look for 'sweet', pleasing colors. Clarity: Blue Spinels should be eye flawless - the more flawless, the better the quality. Minor rutile silk inclusions are acceptable and prove that the gem has not been heat treated. Avoid any but the most minute crystal inclusions, no cracks or cloudy quality. Avoid moderate to significant color zoning. Cleaner is better for Saturn gems. Shape: Oval, cushion, emerald cut, round. Size: 3 carats or larger is ideal, but smaller stones are still effective. Enhancements: Avoid heated Blue Spinels of all types. The Garuda Purana states that heated Saturn gemstones are very bad for the wearer.
