Choose natural, undyed, Pink Coral from the Mediterranean or Sea of Japan, which ranges from pale pink-white ("Angel Skin") to orange. We suspect it is a combination of Moon and Mars influence. Clarity: Coral has natural growth rings and color striations. Some small pits, as well as minimal white streaks of color on the underside of a cabochon, are perfectly normal characteristics of top-quality coral and acceptable for Vedic Astrology. Coral is a sensitive organic material. Very minor natural surface variations are to be expected and do not hinder the benefit of the stone. Beware: Avoid excessively splotchy color, significant cracks, and deep polyp holes. Dyed coral is common in India and elsewhere, which must be avoided for Vedic Astrology. Plastic-filled coral is also common in India. Undyed coral, which is what we exclusively carry, is extremely rare and difficult to find but required to receive Jyotish benefit. Shape: Usually cut in cabochon cuts: oval, round and cushion. Avoid unsymmetrical shapes. Size: 3.00 carats and larger.
